چکیده

The cometary atmosphere is a unique phenomenon in the solar system. Owing to its negligible gravity, comets produce highly variable extensive dusty atmospheres with a size much larger than the characteristic size of the cometary nucleus. As the comet approaches the sun, the water vapor with some fraction of other gases sublimates, generating a cloud of gas and dust from the surface of cometary nucleus, which consists of the ice and refractory materials (rocky and organic solids and dust). Sublimating gas molecules undergo frequent collisions in the near nucleus region and photochemical processes. On the basis of the DSMC method a numerical model of cometary comae has been developed. The model includes photolytic processes in the gas phase and interaction of the dust phase with the gas environment.

Entropy Conditions Involved in the Nonlinear Coupled Constitutive Method for Solving Continuum and Rarefied Gas Flows

The numerical study of continuum-rarefied gas flows is of considerable interest because it can provide fundamental knowledge regarding flow physics. Recently, the nonlinear coupled constitutive method (NCCM) has been derived from the Boltzmann equation and implemented to investigate continuum-rarefied gas flows. In this study, we first report the important and detailed issues in the use of the ...

Development of an Efficient Particle Approach for Micro-scale Gas Flow Simulations

The micro-scale gas flows are usually low-speed flows and exhibit rarefied gas effects. It is challenging to simulate these flows because traditional CFD method is unable to capture the rarefied gas effects and the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is very inefficient for low-speed flows. In this study we combine two techniques to improve the efficiency of the DSMC method. The informa...

Assessment of Gas–Surface Interaction Models for Computation of Rarefied Hypersonic Flow

Among the few classes of computational approaches for examining rarefied gas dynamics, the most widely used technique for spatial scales relevant to suborbital spaceflight is the direct simulationMonte Carlo method. One area in which the direct simulation Monte Carlo method can be improved is the numerical modeling of the interactions between gas molecules and solid surfaces. Gas–surface intera...

Monte Carlo Simulation of the Flow of a Rarefied Gas Around a Cylinder

A Monte Carlo technique is described for simulating the high-speed flow of a rarefied gas around a cylindrical body. The method uses a hard-sphere model, or, alternatively, the "Maxwellian" model to compute collisions between particles. A representative "test particle" is scattered in such a way that its statistical behavior approximates that of a random particle chosen from the actual gas. Thi...

DSMC Simulation with Gas-Surface Interaction Models in Hypersonic Rarefied Flow

A DSMC (direct simulation Monte Carlo) simulation using Dynamical Molecular Collision (DMC) model based on Molecular Dynamics (MD) calculation with various gas-surface interaction models is applied for solving the two-dimensional nonequilibrium hypersonic rarefied flow over a flat plate with leading edge angle. The gas surface interaction models adopt the diffuse reflection model, the Cercignan...
